Why "Elim"? The Bible's Old Testament book known as Exodus famously records that Moses and the people of Israel left Egypt and crossed the Red Sea. Exodus then records, "For three days they travelled in the desert without finding water, but then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water" (Exodus 15:27). Elim, then, was a place of refreshing during what was a harsh journey through a lifeless desert. We use the name "Elim" to indicate that we seek to provide a welcome and refreshing environment for all who "camp" with us, whether as an occasional visitor or as those who would join with us regularly. Why "Church"? Most people think of a church as a building. However, while we have a building of our own to meet in, the Bible uses the word "church" to refer to a community of people who gathered together to worship God as followers of His Son Jesus Christ. In this case "worship" means to live our lives together as a community and in a manner that honours and pleases Him. Why "Aldershot"? Our building is in Holly Road Aldershot and most of the families and individuals that meet there regularly live in or nearby to Aldershot and seek to make a difference in the community by contributing to its well being. For example, we host a weekday mother and toddler group known as "Acorn Toddlers" and we have a children's week night club known as "Secret Agents". Elim Church Aldershot is an Elim Pentecostal Church whose local website can be visited at www.hope-now.org.uk and whose international website can be visited at www.elim.org.uk. Our main Sunday service is at 11.00 am and our church prayer meeting is bi-weekly on Wednesdays at 7.30 pm. We have informal home groups that meet on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but on alternative weeks to the prayer meeting. A ladies coffee morning is held weekly during the day. There is a small car park at the church building. PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE to our neighbours if you need to park in Holly Road. For more details please contact us at the telephone number located on the address webpage, or by email. PLEASE NOTE that we are commencing a building extension during 2009 to include better provision for the disabled, so please take care to contact us in case of any venue change while the building work is underway. |
