23 February - 8 March Fairtrade Fortnight: Check out www.fairtrade.org.uk for news on events and click on the Fairtrade Fortnight Action Guide which is packed with ideas and resources to use in your school. This year, why not Go Bananas for Fairtrade? Join thousands of people throughout the UK and beyond and eat a Fairtrade banana between noon on Friday 6 March to noon on Saturday 7 March to set a world record for the largest number of Fairtrade bananas eaten over a 24 hour period! 5th March - World Book Day Why not hold a book sale to mark the occasion? For hosting the sale of books, and Fairtrade goods, THE TRIANGLE will offer you 10% of the total sales in books for your school. Contact Maureen at the shop if you would like her to supply a box of books for sale or return at your school or group.
Easter resources available from THE TRIANGLE include:
Jesus - The Last Week by Mike Anderson and Paul Heesome. A picture is built of Jesus' last week by adding a poster to the wall each day. The assemblies look at how Jesus acted or was treated by others, with a daily prayer and 'thought for the day'. Whichever way the materials are used, the participants will have the opportunity to reflect on and experience more powerfully the wonderful season of Easter.
Picturing Easter (£26) Eight works of art reproduced on tear-proof cards for handing around and on a CD-ROM for projection - telling the Easter narrative. Each card is backed with comments, questions, biblical references and suggestions for responding as an individual or a group to the artwork. There is a also a 24-page facilitator's guide with further suggestions for learning strategies and background material, written by Lat Blaylock and Victoria Ikwuemesi.
What the Churches Say on moral and social issues. Revised and expanded third edition (£12)A 104-page booklet produced by nine major churches to answer questions about why the churches pronounce on moral and social issues, how they arrive at views on such issues and what they have actually said in fourteen broad areas: Relationships and Family; The Beginning of Life; Gender; Homosexuality; Substance Abuse; The End of Life; Prejudice and Discrimination; Law and Order; Work; Money Matters; Animal Welfare; Bioengineering; Environment and World Development; Peace and War. Absolutely indispensable for anyone teaching the social issues sections of GCSE RS and invaluable for general RE in the upper secondary school.

 

10th -16th May - Christian Aid Week why not get someone from Christian Aid, an international development charity working to rid the world of poverty and the causes of poverty, to come and run a session for you? Christian Aid Teachers are a great resource for schools.
